Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take the Place of Dale and Thomas Popcorn?

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

A few vacancies have been sprouting up around Livingston Town Center. The center, right on the corner of Livingston and Mount Pleasant avenues, is home to a plethora of shops and eateries. Unfortunately, Dale and Thomas Popcorn, who were known for their popcorn drizzled with chocolate, white chocolate and peanut butter are no longer occupying the space at 4145 Town Center Way. The question is: What will be there next? But more importantly: What do you think should be there next? We want to hear from Livingston residents to see what you want, need and crave from this location. Do you want a new store? A new restaurant? Or something completely unique? You tell us! Each week we’ll present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you…

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take the Place of Saturn Dealership?

Planning board hears plan for Bottle King, CVS at Livingston Circle.

Here at Livingston Patch, we’ve started some good discussions about the empty storefronts throughout Livingston, and especially on Route 10, with our Visions for Vacancies content. Last week’s property, the recently moved Kessler Rehabilitation Center on Route 10 West, received quite a bit of traffic. There’s been an overwhelming outpouring of support for a supermarket to replace the now vacant Pathmark in the Village at Livingston shopping center with Patch readers suggesting a Wegmans or Fairway. Another suggestion has been for a Trader Joe’s.  For the smaller spaces we’ve uncovered, readers have suggested places like Little Gyms, Imagine That or a Funplex. For those of you who are just discovering Visions for Vacancies, or who are new …

I think any high traffic retail, like a super market or liquor store or chain pharmacy is a bad idea due to the congestion at the intersection. The traffic through the "circle" is quite heavy as it is. On many saturdays the traffic for the Rt 10 stores further west in Livingston and in East Hanover and beyond, backs up into the circle intersection and back down Mt. Pleasant Ave. Another car …   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Fill Rehab Center

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

Driving along Route 10 in the last several weeks, we've come across quite a few vacant storefronts — the Pathmark at the Village at Livingston, the Linen N Things, the car dealership, the Office Depot and now the site of the former Kessler Rehabilitation Center. The building has been vacant for some time. We'd like to see a business go in this space and fill out the strip it currently occupies. So, this week's Visions for Vacancies focuses on the space the rehab center formerly occupied, just west of the Livingston Circle on the south side of Route 10. The company did not go out of business; it moved just down Route 10 to 320 W. Mount Pleasant Ave.  The comments keep pouring in to Livingston Patch regarding your visions for vacant spaces …

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take the Place of This Vacant Property?

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

Route 10 in Livingston has been the focus of the majority of our weekly Vision for Vacancies stories we’ve run.  We started on Route 10 in the Village at Livingston with the vacant Pathmark supermarket and have included former Linens N Things, the former Office Depot, and last week, the vacant car dealership.  We continue our trek down Route 10 this week with the building just east of the vacant car dealership pictured above.  The building has been vacant for some time and, once again, this is where Patch readers come in.  We’ve heard requests via email and in our comment stream for many businesses to take the place of these vacant properties. The overwhelming choice has been some type of food store — a Whole Foods, an Aldi’s, a Fairway, …

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take the Place of Former Dealership Property?

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

The comments keep pouring in to Livingston Patch regarding your visions for vacant spaces around the township and last week was no exception. What do township residents want most for these vacant spaces we’ve highlighted? The overwhelming request continues to be for a supermarket — an alternative to the ShopRite and Kings already in the township. Christina told us via email she would like to see a Whole Foods for one of the vacant buildings we’ve highlighted over the past few weeks. Readers Mark and Karen agreed. A Livingston Patch comment from Me said an Aldi Food store would make them happy. Last week, when we focused on the vacant Office Depot store located at 585 W. Mount Pleasant Ave. near Toys R Us, we also heard from Margaret, who …

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take Office Depot's Place?

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

In the short time we’ve been running Visions for Vacancies on Livingston Patch, we’ve run the gamut of comments and suggestions for what to do with vacant properties.  Via email and comments, we’ve learned Livingston Patch readers want a supermarket — in the worst way. We’ve heard your pleas for Whole Foods, Wegmans and Fairway Markets. Others want restaurants  — P.F. Changs, Houstons, Rosa Mexicana and Maggiano. But your choices have also included other interesting possibilities  — a Christmas Tree Shoppe, an indoor amusement park and an upscale butcher or fish market. We’ve featured large vacant properties, such as the Pathmark in the Village at Livingston and the Linen N Things on Route 10 as well as the smaller vacant properties like …

Visions for Vacancies: What Type of Business Should Replace This Vacant Building?

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

We couldn’t be prouder of the response and comments we’ve gotten here at Livingston Patch to our Visions for Vacancies column. As we approach our fourth week publishing this column, we’ve run the gamut of comments from you, our readers. Last week, we chose the vacant Enterprise Rent-A-Car site at 142 S. Livingston Ave as our Vision for Vacancies site. And, in what was perhaps one of our proudest moments, we heard from Artie Zebofsky, the exclusive broker for the property thanking us for running the article and for having a forum for someone like him to get feedback from readers on what to do with the property. So, Artie, Livingston Patch readers have spoken and here’s what a few Patch readers would like to replace Enterprise at the site…

I could see a space like that being conveniently used as a daycare center. It's placed on the main road in town, and it is also located on a street corner making for easy drop offs. The town could also use a nice local bookstore where reading and relaxing meet.   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take Enterprise's Place?

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

When we launched our first two Visions for Vacancies columns the last two Fridays on Livingston Patch, we didn't expect the focus of our reader's responses. The first week, we focused on the vacant Pathmark supermarket site in the Village at Livingston near the Livingston Circle.  Last week, we focused on the vacant Linens N Things site at 530 W. Mount Pleasant Ave.  Both stories garnered more than 450 readers. And an additional 25 readers each week went the extra yard and provided comments and suggestions each week.  Livingston Patch readers have overwhelmingly given the nod to a supermarket for those vacant sites, with requests ranging from Wegman’s to Stop & Shop, from Whole Foods to Trader Joe’s.  Several readers thought restaurants …

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take Linen N Things Place?

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

When we launched our initial Visions for Vacancies column last Friday afternoon on Livingston Patch, we asked you for advice on what you would like to see at the site of the former Village at Livingston Pathmark.  So, we were pleased nearly 450 of you read the article, while 23 readers went the extra yard and provided comments and suggestions.  A replacement supermarket seemed to be the overwhelming thought on everyone’s minds — ranging from Wegman’s to Stop & Shop, from Whole Foods to Trader Joe’s.  Several readers thought restaurants like Houston’s or a major food court would fill the space and provide what Livingston residents want. There was even a suggestion for a Christmas Tree Shoppe and a Michael’s-type crafts store.  It’s a new …

Visions for Vacancies: What Should Take Pathmark's Place?

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.

It’s been nine months since Pathmark shuttered its doors at the Village at Livingston location near the Livingston Circle. In its heyday, the supermarket, located at 277 Eisenhower Parkway, competed with several area supermarkets — including King’s, ShopRite and the farmer’s market. The business climate in the township has improved as new businesses —Margaritaville's and Fortunoff’s Backyard Store, for example — have made their debut. In fact, Deputy Mayor Rudy Fernandez said Friday there has been interest in not only the Pathmark site, but in several vacant businesses along the Route 10 corridor and the vacant Saturn dealership. However, he did stress nothing is imminent.  This is where you come in. Today, Patch is launching its newest …

Hi my name is Judy Fierro, and I think where the Pathmark was at the Livingston Circle should either be a Shop Rite or a Foodtown or a Stop and Shop, the same where Linens and Things was and Borders should either be a Shop Rite or a Foodtown or a Stop and Shop. Thank you   more ›
