West Orange's Mark Kelly Wakes Up in Space
Kelly is commanding the final voyage of the space shuttle Endeavour.
"It's good to be waking up in space again," Endeavour's commander Mark Kelly said on Tuesday as Mission Control roused the crew with the song "Beautiful Day" by U2. Kelly grew up in West Orange. Both he and his brother, Scott Kelly, are astronauts who have flown on Shuttle missions. "It is in the DNA of our great country to reach for the stars and explore,” Mark Kelly said shortly before liftoff on Monday. “We must not stop.” The morning wake-up song was picked for Kelly by his daughters Claudia and Claire, and his wife Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who was shot during a January attack.
