Livingston Honors Santola and Schneiderman

The former Mayors were given a "Key to the City."

Even though Tuesday’s reorganization meeting was built around new councilmen being sworn in and the selection of a deputy mayor, Livingston Mayor Rudy Fernandez still took time to honor those who served before them. Former Mayors Stephen Santola and Gary Schneiderman were honored on Tuesday for their service to Livingston.  Both were presented with multiple gifts including photos of their first swearing in, in 1999, fleeces, a gavel and calendars marking their Mondays free.  However, most symbolically, the two were given plaques with "keys to the city." "The Livingston Township Council is proud to honor Steve and Gary, as they conclude 12 years of service to our community as a councilmember, with Steve concluding three terms as mayor and …

Santola, Schneiderman Bid Farewell to Township Council

The two Democrats have been on the council since 2001.

Two long-time members of Livingston’s township council bid farewell last night.  Mayor Stephen Santola and Councilman Gary Schneiderman are leaving the dais behind after 12 years of service on the township council. They will be replaced by Al Anthony and Michael Silverman on Jan. 1. Elected in 2001, both men were elected after serving on the planning board.  Both of them climbed the ranks to serve as mayor at one point. "During the 12 years, not all of their decisions have been easy and not all of them have been popular, but they have always made them in the best interest of the community,” said Deputy Mayor Rudy Fernandez, who is expected to replace Santola as mayor on Jan. 1, the second time he has served in that capacity. The township bully is leaving us finally! Santola, Your only accomplishments are that you spent our tax dollars like a drunken sailor on shore leave, you got your picture in the paper as often as you could, and you attempted to bully people and stifle information at every turn. An ego is something that people have for being able to accomplishment feats that others admire. Your ego exists only in …   more ›

Livingston Settles With Library Construction Companies

The long legal battle ends with the township paying $528,000 to ICE.

On Monday, the Livingston Town Council unanimously passed a resolution that settled a lawsuit between the township and Integrated Construction Enterprises, Inc.  ICE is the company that took the lead in renovating the Livingston Public Library. ICE brought suit against the township alleging it was owed money from the construction, which ended in September 2007. The construction company brought 11 claims against Livingston, totaling more than $2.5 million. The township retained Bob Lawless, a partner at Hedinger & Lawless, LLC, who was able to negotiate the settlement down to $528,000. “The goal…of litigation of this magnitude, close to $3 million, based on change orders, can take weeks and weeks of trial, which can cost millions of dollars…
