LHS Girls Softball Organization Hold Fundraiser to Support Team
Last Friday, members of the Livingston High School Softball Parents Association held an all-you-can eat pasta dinner to help raise funds for the team's annual spring training trip to Florida. The event, held in the high school cafeteria, had both parents and team members chipping in to help prepare and serve pasta with all the fixings. Parents, grandparents friends, former coaches and fellow students all bought tickets and gathered to support the team. The Softball Parents Association would like to thank the following sponsors for helping make this event a success: Calandra’s Bakery, Dunkin Donuts on Northfield Avenue, Gargiulo Produce, Master Pizza, Viavento Imports and friends and family of the players, Coach Daily, the LHS Staff and …

Livingston hits a homerun with fall Thunder Rumble softball tournament.
It was beautiful weekend for softball as parents and players packed their equipment bags and traveled to the Livingston National Little League & Softball fields to participate in the inaugural Livingston Fall Thunder Rumble Tournament. Beginning Friday night, girls’ softball teams battled it out for position and the right to play in the championship game on Sunday. Many older Thunder players came to staff the snack bar while coaches cooked food and groomed the fields. Indeed, many board members extended their shifts and watched along with other fans of softball who came to the fields to take in the sights, sounds and smells of a softball tournament. The smell of the sausage and peppers emanating from the grill was by far the favorite. …

Fall tournament is a first for girls softball program.
Player’s Note by Sydney Becker: My Thunder softball program is hosting a tournament at our fields. It's called the Fall Thunder Rumble. Friday was the first game. We played Roseland, and won 5-4. It was a very exciting game. It was so cold! How much I dislike cold weather, I don't think I can put it in words. Since it was so cold, after the game we went to Dunkin Donuts. The apple cider was really good. I recommend it. The tournament continues tomorrow, and finishes on Sunday. (You can read Sydney's journal here). The Livingston National Little League & Softball’s Thunder Travel Softball Program is hosting a softball tournament this weekend at the Livingston National Little League complex for girls fast-pitch softball teams, ages 10 & …

Livingston's 14-U softball begins fall season with strong showing in Back to School tournament.
Baseball play was suspended for 10 days after 9/11/2001 but we all remember the day the NY Mets played the first game at home after the tragedy wearing hats with the initials of the FDNY and NYPD. When Mike Piazza hit that dramatic home run, we all cerebrated as a country, not just as a fan of a local team. Ten years later, Livingston’s Thunder 14-U softball team opened their season. All of the teams playing in the Mt. Olive Back to School Tournament wore yellow ribbons commemorating 9/11. In the opening game, the Thunder played the NJ Spirit. With strong pitching from Olivia Cordero, good defense and a lot of offense, the Thunder won by the score of 17-4. The team had to quickly pack up their gear and travel by car to the next field to …

Girls turn up the heat to advance to championship game.
The tension was as high as the heat index as the Livingston Thunder 14-U softball team met the Lady Mustangs of Montville in pressured filled 7 innings of playoff softball. At stake: The right to play in the Denville Summer League Championship game on Monday night. The game began at the Montville home field with the visiting Thunder team batting in the first inning. Allie Bienhacker led off with a single, but two pitches later, she was thrown out attempting to steal second. The next batter Julie Kane popped out to the pitcher then Ally Royce singled and quickly stole second base. The clean-up hitter Hanna Anderson came to bat with two out and a runner in scoring position and hit a long fly ball over the left fielders head for a RBI …

It's hard to beat when it's 115 degrees on the field.
The 14-U Livingston Thunder Softball Team took to the field Thursday to play the Andover Swirls in the first round of the Denville Summer League fastpitch softball playoffs at DaLonzo Field in Livingston. But there was a third opponent each team had to compete against this night -- the heat. As the girls began the game, the temperature was 115 degrees on the field. Both coaches and parents had to keep a watchful eye on the players for signs of heat-related illnesses and take steps to prevent them. The human body generates about 100 watts from internal metabolic processes, but this number can escalate to 1,000 watts during heavy exercise. A watt, if you can remember from your high school physics class, is the unit of power or energy …

Tennis team close to ultimate prize, baseball and volleyball still alive, track heads into Group 4 tournament.
TRACK After great success on the local level all season, the Livingston track and field teams had a very tough test against some of the best teams outside Essex County this past weekend. And like it's done all spring, the Lancers responded to the challenge at the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 meet at Randolph by advancing 13 athletes to the Group 4 Championships, slated for this Friday and Saturday at Old Bridge. The top six finishers in each event qualified for the Group 4 meet. Leading the charge, as usual, for the boys was All-American Jeramy Elkaim, who pulled off a distance double for the second straight year by winning the 1,600 (4:14.83) and the 3,200 (9:22.25 as the Livingston boys finished fourth with 42 points.
