Ken Schwartz's musical at Mount Pleasant Middle School rocked!
What would happen if the Broadway shows “1776” and “Grease” collided? You’d get “The Taste Of Freedom,” the latest production at Mt. Pleasant Middle School with lyrics and music written by MPMS’s own Ken Schwartz. It became apparent from the first few notes that this was going to present the pre-revolutionary war period with a rockin’ kick. The main character is 13-year-old Billy Dawes, played by Ryan Healy, who helps run the family tavern along with his mother, Sarah (Isabella LaPolla), sister (Alex Franchino), and older brother, Rob (Jackson Rynar). The tavern is a favorite meeting spot for off-duty British soldiers and the Sons of Liberty, who secretly plan pre-war exercises there. Billy yearns to be part of the Sons of Liberty, but…
