Planning board hears plan for Bottle King, CVS at Livingston Circle.
Here at Livingston Patch, we’ve started some good discussions about the empty storefronts throughout Livingston, and especially on Route 10, with our Visions for Vacancies content. Last week’s property, the recently moved Kessler Rehabilitation Center on Route 10 West, received quite a bit of traffic. There’s been an overwhelming outpouring of support for a supermarket to replace the now vacant Pathmark in the Village at Livingston shopping center with Patch readers suggesting a Wegmans or Fairway. Another suggestion has been for a Trader Joe’s. For the smaller spaces we’ve uncovered, readers have suggested places like Little Gyms, Imagine That or a Funplex. For those of you who are just discovering Visions for Vacancies, or who are new …

Patch readers comments and ideas sought for vacant stores and buildings in the township.
It’s been nine months since Pathmark shuttered its doors at the Village at Livingston location near the Livingston Circle. In its heyday, the supermarket, located at 277 Eisenhower Parkway, competed with several area supermarkets — including King’s, ShopRite and the farmer’s market. The business climate in the township has improved as new businesses —Margaritaville's and Fortunoff’s Backyard Store, for example — have made their debut. In fact, Deputy Mayor Rudy Fernandez said Friday there has been interest in not only the Pathmark site, but in several vacant businesses along the Route 10 corridor and the vacant Saturn dealership. However, he did stress nothing is imminent. This is where you come in. Today, Patch is launching its newest …

Set to close at The Village of Livingston, grocery gets a one-day reprieve.
The Pathmark on the Route 10 Circle is winding down to its final days, the official closing now Saturday. “They’re just picking our bones,” said an employee this afternoon, nodding sadly at the handful of customers scouting out the merchandise. Pathmark advertised 70 percent to 90 percent discounts doors as it cleared shelves before closing at The Village of Livingston shopping center on Eisenhower Parkway. The store is being shut by the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. -- the Montvale-based chain that has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Employees were told the grocery received a one-day reprieve from the original April 15 closing day and will now close on Saturday. “It doesn’t matter. We’re still out of jobs,” said one …

Livingston grocery is listed in latest round of closings by troubled A&P.
The Pathmark on Eisenhower Parkway is on a list to close -- adding more vacant space along Route 10, just as signs of a turnaround are beginning to emerge. The Livingston grocery is among seven Pathmarks and three A&P groceries in New Jersey identified in the latest round of closings by the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. -- the Montvale-based chain that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December. The Livingston Pathmark is the only Essex County grocery targeted, according to the union that represents workers. The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 464A posted news of the closings on its Web site. “When I was told the news, my first concern was for the families impacted by the job loss,” said Livingston Mayor Rudy …

I think any high traffic retail, like a super market or liquor store or chain pharmacy is a bad idea due to the congestion at the intersection. The traffic through the "circle" is quite heavy as it is. On many saturdays the traffic for the Rt 10 stores further west in Livingston and in East Hanover and beyond, backs up into the circle intersection and back down Mt. Pleasant Ave. Another car …   more ›
