Tony Awards: Look Who Is Nominated

LHS alumni Stephen Oremus and Nikki M. James receive nod for their work in The Book Of Mormon.

As nominations for the Tony Awards were announced, two Livingston graduates were among 14 nominated for their work on The Book of Mormon: Actress Nikki M. James and Stephen Oremus, the show's musical director. The Book of Mormon has been an unlikely hit about two Mormon missionaries who find more than they bargained for in Africa. The musical was written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of the popular animated series “South Park,” and Robert Lopez, co-creator of the Tony Award-winning musical “Avenue Q.” The play nabbed a leading 14 Tony Award nominations Tuesday morning, for best musical, best book of a musical, best original score, two leading actor spots and two featured actor nominations, among others. Kids Show Paper Mill: We Got Talent

The best of the bunch will get callback for summer theater program.

Hundreds of kids stepped onto the stage Saturday at the Wilkins Theatre at Kean University to audition for Paper Mill Playhouse’s 2011 Summer Professional Training Programs. The youngsters were participating in the second of three audition sessions. The participants, who were between the ages of 10 and 18, were looking to snag a spot in one of Paper Mill’s two programs: the five-week Summer Musical Theatre Conservatory, which begins in June, or the three-week August Musical Theatre Intensive. Youth who end up in the conservatory are grouped into three companies, which include Juniors (ages 10-12), Junior + (12-14) and Seniors (15-18).
