The Millburn Fire Department says residents may smell natural gas in the area similar to Thursday's gas purge.

Essex County Declares State of Emergency, PSE&G Poised to Respond

No significant power outages have been reported as of noon Friday, but storm expected to last into early morning Saturday.

No significant power outages have been reported in Essex County a few hours into Friday's Winter Storm, but PSE&G is ready to respond to what could be widespread outages throughout its service area, the utility said in advance of the Nor'easter. Contractors, including tree crews, are poised and ready and additional supplies, such as poles, transformer and other equipment, are on hand, PSE&G said. The Nor’easter could dump more than a foot of snow and bring heavy winds to Essex County, where widespread, long-term outages caused by Superstorm Sandy are still fresh on many residents’ minds. Essex County has declared a state of emergency, according to the county’s Office of Emergency Management. No parking will be allowed on country roads …

PSE&G Explains Nov. 5 Estimate for Power in Livingston

A release answers the questions many of us have.

PSE&G today released a statement explaining: Why is everyone being told power won’t be back until November 5th? Under normal circumstances we know how long it takes to respond to reports of problems and restore service. Our experience and the information you give us goes into our system, and it generates an Expected Time of Restoration (ETR.) These ETRs are quite accurate during moderate-sized storms. This is not your average storm. Hurricane Sandy has caused unprecedented damage, twice as much damage as Hurricane Irene.  Many of our facilities were flooded by coastal surges, water-logging our equipment and making our stations and facilities difficult to access. The amount of time it will take to begin working on a specific job may not be …

PSE&G: Nearly 150,000 in Essex Still Without Power

Electric Company official says Hurricane Sandy 'similar but a much more serious storm than Irene.'

Nearly 150,000 PSE&G customers in Essex County are still without power Wednesday morning after what officials called a "painstaking" restoration process. Power has been restored to large parts of Newark, including Newark International Liberty Airport, Elizabeth and parts of Jersey City. Newark likely experienced the brunt of outages, with 95 percent of the city dark Tuesday. That number has dropped to 35 percent, with an assessment of substations continuing Wednesday. "We have an enormous amount of work ahead of us," said Ralph Izzo, chairman and chief executive officer of PSE&G. Hurricane Sandy, said another PSE&G official, was "similar but a much more serious storm than Irene."  There were more than 255,000 Essex County PSE&G customers…

The utility is getting equipment and manpower in place to help with power disruptions during Hurricane Sandy.

After the difficulties experienced when Hurricane Irene hit the area in 2011, PSE&G is assuring customers that they have the manpower, equipment and plan in place to make sure things go smoothly when Hurricane Sandy hits the area. According to the utility company, PSE&G is closely monitoring the track of thke storm and is making emergency preparations should the storm bring heavy rain, strong winds and flooding to its service territory.  In anticipation of the storm, the company is taking the following steps to ensure that it is ready to respond to what may be widespread power outages: Clearly, a storm like Hurricane Sandy has the potential to interrupt service, said PSE&G. PSE&G is offering their customers with defective furnaces a freebie - but you have to act now.

Following one of the warmest summers in recent memory, PSE&G is reminding residents that it won't stay warm forever. Winter is approaching and PSE&G is offering gas heating customers a special incentive to turn the heat on now: the utility company will come out and start your unit at no charge through Sept. 9 to see if there is a problem with the system. “Chilly weather will be here soon, and one of the best things our gas heating customers can do now is to check their system to ensure safe and efficient operation before the colder weather arrives,” said Joe Bassolino, PSE&G’s manager of business development. “By testing their heating systems early, customers will be prepared for the upcoming cold weather. In addition, PSE&G will be able …

PSE&G Prepared for 2012 Summer Electricity Demand

PSE&G says they are ready to meet this summer’s peak electric demand as their customers benefit from lower electricity costs.

Public Service Electric and Gas Co. (PSE&G), which counts Livingston as among the towns they service, recently announced that they are ready to meet this summer’s peak electric demand as their customers benefit from lower electricity costs. “Going into the summer, customers want to know two things: Will there be enough electricity to run my air conditioner and fans? And, how much is the power going to cost me? We’re pleased to have good answers to both those questions,” said Ralph LaRossa, PSE&G president and COO. LaRossa said the summer outlook is positive, thanks to the significant investments the utility has made in new technology and equipment. “Grid operators have said that we will have enough power to meet the demand for electricity …
