LHS Sports Wrap: Elkaim Defends Titles

Tennis team close to ultimate prize, baseball and volleyball still alive, track heads into Group 4 tournament.

TRACK After great success on the local level all season, the Livingston track and field teams had a very tough test against some of the best teams outside Essex County this past weekend. And like it's done all spring, the Lancers responded to the challenge at the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 meet at Randolph by advancing 13 athletes to the Group 4 Championships, slated for this Friday and Saturday at Old Bridge. The top six finishers in each event qualified for the Group 4 meet. Leading the charge, as usual, for the boys was All-American Jeramy Elkaim, who pulled off a distance double for the second straight year by winning the 1,600 (4:14.83) and the 3,200 (9:22.25 as the Livingston boys finished fourth with 42 points. Softball Team Shuts Out Millburn

Peslak shines as the Lady Lancers defeat Millburn Millers.

LIVINGSTON - After a heart-breaking loss to Mt. St. Dominic less than twenty four hours prior, the Lancers' girls softball team headed into Saturday's contest looking to get back on the winning track. That's what they did, indeed, blanking the Millers 10-0 in the first round of the Essex County Tournament. Almost instantly, Livingston jumped on the board  by scoring a run early in the first inning.  Livingston was held to just one run in that inning, as Millburn's Kaitlin Zampino pitched well.  The Millers didn't have a chance to score when it first went to bat, as Livingston's Jessica Peslak  shut down the opposition's offense.   In the second inning, Peslak struck out the side in order.
