Livingston Community Players Present the Music Man

The Meredith Wilson classic will be held the next two weekends.

For their 10th anniversary show, Livingston Community Players will proudly present Meredith Willson’s The Music Man. The Music Man is based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. The plot concerns con man Harold Hill, who poses as a boys' band organizer and leader and sells band instruments and uniforms to naive townsfolk before skipping town with the cash.  The show opened on Broadway in 1957 and won 5 Tony Awards.  There are many memorable songs in The Music Man, among them is the rousing 76 Trombones, the lovely Goodnight My Someone, and the wry Ya Got Trouble. Arts Council of Livingston Honors Local Couple

Phyliss and Arthur Meranus will be awarded Sunday at the annual gala for community theater and painting.

The Arts Council of Livingston will pay a tribute to local theater and fine art at their annual gala on Sunday with honorees Phyliss Meranus, a producer and actress, and Arthur Meranus, a painter. Council President Martha Ackermann said Phyliss Meranus is being awarded for helping to start a a "rebirth" of the Livingston Community Players in 2002 after several years of dormancy. The Livingston Community Players has done nine shows since returning to the stage; next month there will be a performance of "The Wizard of Oz." "When it came down to honoring somebody, it was such as easy pick as to who to honor," Ackermann said. "She made such a contribution to community arts and community theater. Livingston Community Players earn 10 nominations for Perry Awards.

Livingston Community Players (LCP) is hoping to make one singular sensation Sunday night at the Perry Awards. The theater company has been nominated for 10 Perry Awards for its production of A Chorus Line. Nominated categories include outstanding production, director, musical direction, choreography, and lead actor.  The nominations are made by NJACT, The New Jersey Association of Community Theatres.  On Sept. 18 the awards will be presented at the Doubletree Hotel Ballroom in Somerset with more than 1,000 expected to attend the black tie affair.  The New Jersey Association of Community Theaters (NJACT) is a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting local theater around the state. Follow The Yellow Brick Road To LCP Auditions

Livingston Community Players will hold 'Wizard Of Oz' tryouts.

If you’ve ever watched the performers in musicals and thought, “I could do that,” now’s your chance! Auditions for Livingston Community Players’ production of The Wizard of Oz will be held at the Northland Community Center in Livingston on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8 for adults and teens over the age of 14. Kids will try out Sept. 10. According to Phyllis Meranus, President and Co-Producer of LCP,  “We are very excited about the upcoming auditions. Last year we did A Chorus Line and there were no young children in the show.
