The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities will hold its annual spring party for people with special needs and their families on Saturday, May 18, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Livingston Senior and Community Center, at 204 Hillside Ave., Come join the committee for food, beverages, arts and crafts and dancing. There will also be a DJ. This event is free and open to the public. Register in advance for the event by calling Alan Karpas at (973) 992-6411 or send an email to alan@karpas.net. Limited seating is available. The mission of the Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities is to improve the quality of life for those people with disabilities and their families.

The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities will hold its annual free Wiffle Ball Clinic for children with special needs on Sunday, March 4 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday’s clinic, the last of four Winter Sports Clinics, will be held at the West Essex YMCA, located at 321 S. Livingston Ave. in Livingston. “New volunteers have been helping out at the Winter Sports Clinics this season,” says LACD co-chair Bob Gebroe, who leads the clinics. “We have the support of the Livingston High School girls’ freshman, junior varsity and varsity basketball teams. FIRST LEGO League team will mentor 'Shining Stars.'
A “Shining Star” Robotics League will be offered for children with special needs this coming fall, the Livingston Robotics Club (LRC) and Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) announced. One of the LRC’s award-winning FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams, team Landrias, comprised of four rising eighth-grade girls, is available to mentor one or two teams for two to four hours per week. “After three years of competing in the FLL, and successfully winning multiple regional Champion’s awards and Robot Design awards at the state level, the all-girls team Landrias has decided to change its mission from one of competition to ‘mentoring,’ which is how the idea of a ‘Shining Star’ Robotics League was conceived,” says Pearl Hwang, President…
