Lancers Lose to Montclair in Finals

Bier scores lone goal as LHS ends seasons 19-3-1.

Although the Livingston girls soccer team faced a familiar foe, Montclair, in the North 1, Group 4 final, they also endured a familiar result against their Essex County rival. A 3-0, first-half deficit proved insurmountable as the Lancers' season ended with a 4-1 setback Thursday afternoon at Livingston High School. Although they finished 19-3-1, they went 0-3-1 against Montclair (21-0-1), including losses in Essex County Tournament and sectional state championship games. Junior Clara Scher scored her team-best 18th goal in the 51st minute, pulling Livingston within 3-1, but the Mounties tacked on an insurance goal in the 73rd minute. Despite the loss, Livingston is scheduled to return most of its roster in 2012, including Scher and …

LHS Girls Soccer Faces Familiar Foe in Sectional Final

Lancers are 0-2-1 against Montclair this season.

A familiar nemesis stands between Livingston and its quest to repeat as North 1, Group 4 girls soccer champion today at 2 p.m. on its home turf: The same Montclair team against which they are 0-2-1 this season, including a 1-0 loss in the Essex County Tournament on Oct. 22. “We wouldn't want it any other way,” head coach Pete Raiz said. “It's two teams that are familiar with each other,” Raiz continued. “Our attitude is we want to play one of the best and Montclair is one of the best.” Outside of matches against Montclair, the Lancers are 19-0 this fall. However, after playing to a scoreless tie Sept. 12 in Livingston, they dropped a 4-0 road decision Oct. 4 before losing the county championship match. Raiz praised the Mounties for having…

LHS Boys Soccer Receives No. 14 Seed in State Tournament

Lancers will open at No. 3 Randolph next Tuesday; girls soccer, girls volleyball earn top seeds in respective brackets.

Once again, the Livingston boys soccer team will be forced to battle through a tournament bracket as an underdog. It is not unfamiliar territory for the Lancers, however. Having reached the Essex County Tournament title match despite being seeded seventh, Livingston drew the No. 14 seed in the NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 tournament, it was announced Wednesday. This means the Lancers (8-9-2) will begin their quest for a sectional championship on the road next Tuesday at third-seeded Randolph. However, Livingston has played solid soccer lately, winning three of its last five matches; the lone two setbacks came against state powerhouse Seton Hall Prep, including a loss in the Essex County final last Saturday.  Although the Lancers' boys soccer …

Livingston girls soccer take show on the road in 3-0 win.
