Trip to Disney is 'an experience of a lifetime' for LHS Marching Band.

The Livingston High School Marching Band had the “experience of a lifetime” when they traveled to Walt Disney World and led the afternoon parade in front of a cheering crowd down Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, band members said. “This was the highlight of high school so far,” said Aaron Brunner, a 16-year-old percussionist in the band as he talked about the trip with some of the other band members and the directors Thursday after school in the band room. “It went like clockwork,” said marching band co-director Michael Jedwabnik. “There was a nice appreciative crowd.” The students could not believe how many Disney visitors cheered for them in the parade. “People were taking …

LHS Marching Band performs Sunday in Disney World Parade.

Livingston High School junior Tiffany Bair, a drum major in the high school marching band, expects to feel a “rush of adrenaline” Sunday afternoon when she and the rest of the band lead the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Parade down Main Street. “How many people get to go to Disney World with their marching band?” an enthusiastic Tiffany said during a break from marching around the Haines Pool parking lot after school. “I am really proud that we get to show off all of our hard work.” Usually the high school marching band puts away their instruments in the fall after football season and the marching band competition season ends with the big competition at Giants Stadium, aside from…

LHS Marching Band gets ready to fly to Florida.
For the first time since 2004, the LHS Marching Band will perform in a parade at Disney World. Getting there involves more than just practice -- an audition is required, as well as a major commitment from the students. The cost per player of is over $700, making it difficult for some. But kids like color guard member Eliana Gassman was not deterred. "I am really happy that I am going," she said. "I raised all the money myself through fundraising sales. I sold pizza, fruit, anything that I could." Fifty-nine students will make the trip. The band will play the music of Elvis Presley, "Burning Love" and "C.C.
