Livingston Teens Prepare for Driving Changes

"Kyleigh's Law," a new measure aimed at teen drivers, goes into effect May 1.

Kyleigh D'Alessio, a 16-year-old New Jersey teenager, lost her life in a tragic motor vehicle accident on December 21, 2006. Last year, in honor of D'Alessio, then-governor Jon Corzine signed a bill that required all motorists under the age of 21 who hold either an examination permit or a probationary license to place a decal on their vehicle to indicate that they are new drivers.   The law is referred to as "Kyleigh's Law" and it's the first of its kind in the country. It goes into effect on May 1.  Starting then, all New Jersey drivers under 21 years old with probationary licenses will need to have a red-colored decal affixed to the upper left corner of both front and rear license plates.
