The Board of Education will have a new look in 2013.
The Livingston Board of Education held their reorganization meeting on Monday night, swearing in two new members and voting a new President of the board. The newly elected members, Pamela Chirls and Dr. David Jasin, took the oath of office and will be replacing retiring members Bonnie Granatir and Chuck Granata. Jasin and Chirls were elected in November's election. Ronnie Spring, a BOE member since 2010, was named the new President, replacing Leslie Winograd, who will remain as a member of the board. Barry Funt was selected as Vice President, replacing Spring who held the position last year. The BOE's next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Livingston High School auditorium.

Pamela Chirls and David Jasin are the top two vote getters in BOE race.
The votes are counted and Michael Silverman and Al Anthony have defeated Chuck Granata and Allan Feid Jr. for the two open Livingston Town Council seats. With the win, Silverman and Anthony, the democrats in the race, ensure that the makeup of the council will stay the same politically. They will be taking over for outgoing Mayor Stephen Santola and councilman Gary Schniederman. For the Livingston Board of Education, Pamela Chirls and David Jasin will be elected to the BOE to replace outgoing Bonnie Granatir and Chuck Granata. The latest BOE candidates forum gives voters more insight as to who they are voting for.
On October 9, the Livingston Old Guard held a special forum featuring the candidates for this year's Board of Education election. The three candidates trying to secure one of the two open spots are Pamela Chirls, Dr. David Jasin and Soumitra Rathod. The candidates answered five questions, provided to them before the debate, and one question from the audience. Among the topics discussed was what they would like to see in the next superintendent, should current superintendent Dr. Brad Draeger decide not to renew his contract; the proposed referendum for $28 million of constructions; and what they see their roles being if elected and which issues are most pressing.

Last week, the Livingston chapter of the League of Woman Voters held a special debate featuring the candidates for this year's Board of Education election. The three candidates trying to secure one of the two open spots are Pamela Chirls, Dr. David Jasin and Soumitra Rathod. Every this week, Patch will be bringing you some of the questions asked to the candidates in the debate. The candidates were asked two questions, chosen ahead of time, by the League of Women Voters. The first question asked to the candidates was "do you believe that it is appropriate to have a charter school as an option for Livingston?"
