Jen's Life Honored with Smiles, Tears

Cycle for Survival vows to continue the 'fearless' fight of Jennifer Goodman Linn.

Jennifer Goodman Linn was honored on Friday at the Riverside Memorial Chapel in New York City, where nearly 800 family and friends, and the Cycle of Survival community, celebrated her life through tears -- and at Jen's request – laughter and smiles. "Jen understood what life was all about," said Rabbi Peter Kasdan, rabbi emeritus of Temple Emanu-El of West Essex. "She knew its fragility and brevity. She made a decision when she was just a little girl that she would not waste one breath to mediocrity or lose one moment to idleness." Jen founded Cycle for Survival in 2006, which has raised more than $9 million for research of rare cancers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. She was a graduate of Livingston High School, Duke University, and Harvard …

Jennifer Goodman Linn, Fearless Fighter

Cycle for Survival founder raised millions for cancer research.

Jennifer Goodman Linn, 40, the founder of Cycle for Survival who raised millions of dollars to help doctors find cures for rare cancers, died July 20, YouFearless.com announced. “It is with great sadness that we want to inform all of you who have supported and loved Jen throughout the years that she passed away earlier this morning. As tough as a fighter Jen was, her death was peaceful and she did not seem to be suffering; she was surrounded by loved ones. Obviously this is tragic and heartbreaking for all of us, but we are grateful that she is no longer suffering.” Jen battled a rare cancer that inspired thousands to join her quest to put a positive spin on treatments. She turned adversity into strength and opportunity to form the Cycle …

Some people, like Jen, surpass their circumstances. As a fellow "rare" cancer patient, the courage and example set by Jen cannot be measured. Some cancers cannot be cured, but Jen showed they can be fought with success. I know that she will always be remembered for her fighting spirit. My condolences to her family who I know gave her their full and unquestioned support and love.   more ›

You Fearless

Local Voices: Out of the Mouths of Babes

An excerpt from Jennifer Goodman Linn's latest blog on 'You Fearless.'

Excerpt from You Fearless, May 21, 2011 I find that when I don’t feel well or I am down, I love to be around children. I think it’s because they haven’t developed fears about what to say … they just say it like it is. I think we all wish at times we could just “say it like it is” but we get overwhelmed or concerned about people’s reactions and this makes our communication less honest and pure. So many of my friends who have dealt with cancer credit their kids for keeping them sane. Some of my favorite stories: Read the rest of Jen's blog on YouFearless @ Out of the Mouth of Babes, May 21, 2011. Read more by Jennifer Goodman Linn on YouFearless.com and WebMD.com.

Local Voices: The Doors that Present Themselves

Jennifer Goodman Linn, Her Fearless Life.

Jennifer Goodman Linn is the founder of Cycle for Survival, a successful fund-raising event. She is an award-winning motivational speaker and marketing strategy consultant. For the past 6 years, she has slogged through eight courses of chemotherapy to shrink the tumors and six grueling surgeries to remove them. “Five relapses later, I continue to beat the odds by not giving in to the disease -- by living a fearless life.” With permission, we are sharing a recent post on her blog, You Fearless. The Doors that Present Themselves It’s been a long time since I’ve written about some of the amazing people I’ve met along this crazy, cancer journey. Well, today I couldn’t resist because I have a truly beautiful story to share. Dean Baer is an …

For Jen, With Love from Livingston

Teachers Cycle for Survival, putting a meaningful spin on a day set aside for giving from the heart.

Teachers in Livingston schools know that kindness counts more this Valentine’s Day than flowers and chocolates. It’s a lesson on empathy they’ve been sharing with their students, literally, putting themselves in the shoes of others, or in this case, the sneakers of Jennifer Goodman Linn, the LHS graduate who has raised millions of dollars in sports clubs to help doctors find cures for rare cancers. Linn is battling a rare cancer that has inspired thousands to join her quest to put a positive spin on treatments. She's turned adversity into strength and opportunity to form the Cycle for Survival fundraiser, an event that raised more than $4.5 million this weekend alone at spinning events in major cities, and suburban Livingston, New Jersey, …

Hillside Pep Rally: Give Me an 'E' ... the 'E' in Heart

Empathy is learned by example as school supports Cycle for Survival.

Who: Hillside Elementary School. Accomplishments: They have HEART! Something we especially want to point out on Valentine's Day. At Hillside, HEART means: Helpful. Empathetic. Accepting. Responsible. Working Together. Key to Awesomeness: School spirit! On Friday, students wore the T-shirt designed by third grader Savannah Belcoure and purchased by their Student Council to cheer on their teachers riding in Cycle for Survival. They got into the spirit of giving, raising $200 in coins for cancer research. “It’s not just your academic studies like math and social studies, that’s important in life,” Sandy Goodman, mother of the founder of Cycle for Survival, told the students. “It’s about learning to care for your community and your friends. Pizza Dough Helps Fight Cancer

Calabria helps raise money for Cycle for Survival.

When Hillside teachers went looking to raise some dough for their fundraising ride for Cycle for Survival, they found an ally in Calabria Restaurant & Pizzeria. The restaurant earlier this week donated $3,500 for the teachers who are riding to help find a cure for cancer. It was all part of a day devoted to good eating for a good cause. Cycle for Survival is the inspiration of Jennifer Goodman Linn, a LHS graduate who has battled a rare cancer for the past six years. She’s inspired dozens of Livingston residents – and thousands around the world – to join her charity, Cycle for Survival, which has raised millions of dollars for cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. On Monday, her parents Sandy and Len Goodman of …

Teachers Join Fight Against Rare Cancers

Day camp owner makes a large donation to help the Cycle for Survival fund-raising efforts at Hillside School.

Roger Black of Livingston knows how it feels to lose a loved one to a rare cancer. His mother Nancy died five years ago – “five years and one month to be exact,” he says. Black graduated from Livingston High School in 1992 and knew Jennifer Goodman Linn, founder of Cycle for Survival, a charity that has raised more than $5 million for cancer research.  “We all live our lives knowing we can do more,” said Black, owner of Stonybrook Day Camp. “This is a local cause. If we don’t get behind this, what do we have?” Linn has been battling a rare cancer for the past six years. She’s inspired thousands of people to help her in her efforts to support research on rare cancers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Rare cancers are far more …
