Riders representing Livingston Public Schools give a lesson on ‘K & R’ and giving.
Teachers, principals and parents rode side-by-side on bicycles built for fitness to raise thousands and thousands of dollars to help doctors find cures for rare cancers. The riders representing Livingston Public Schools raised nearly $60,000. Altogether, with teens and other Livingston groups participating -- more than 1,000 riders overall -- about $800,000 was raised by Cycle for Survival New Jersey on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Equinox Summit. Many of the riders had personal reasons to ride, their lives as well touched by cancer. The event has been continued and inspired in memory of Jennifer Goodman Linn, an ’89 LHS graduate who founded Cycle for Survival while battling a rare cancer. When Livingston residents went looking to raise some dough for their fundraising ride for Cycle for Survival, they didn't have to go far, finding an ally in Calabria Restaurant & Pizzeria. The restaurant will open its doors on Tuesday, Jan. 29 to help volunteers riding to help find a cure for cancer. It’s all part of a day devoted to good eating for a good cause. Cycle for Survival is the inspiration of the late Jennifer Goodman Linn, a Livingston High School graduate who battled a rare cancer. She was an inspiration to hundreds of Livingston residents – and thousands around the world – to join her charity, Cycle for Survival, which has raised millions of dollars for cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Teachers and teens will Cycle for Survival, putting a meaningful spin on giving from the heart.
Teachers in Livingston schools know that kindness counts more this coming Valentine’s Day than flowers and chocolates. It’s a lesson on empathy they will share with their students, literally, putting themselves in the shoes of others, or in this case, the sneakers of Jennifer Goodman Linn, the ’89 LHS graduate who raised millions of dollars in sports clubs to help doctors find cures for rare cancers. Linn passed away in 2011, but not before inspiring thousands to join her quest to put a positive spin on treatments. She formed the Cycle for Survival fundraiser, an event that has raised more than $23 million at spinning events in major cities, and suburban Livingston, her hometown. Nearly 100 teachers will ride at the Equinox in Summit in …

If raising $342,000 in Livingston wasn’t enough, the boxing gloves accentuated the point, that yes, we will win the fight against cancer. On Saturday, Livingston hosted a New Jersey satellite spin for Cycle for Survival, a fundraiser devoted to rare cancers. Livingston’s spin was “an overwhelming success, both in terms of dollars raised by also as measured by the great spirit of support and community throughout the building,” Jeff Becker said. Close to 700 riders and 200 volunteers -- including Livingston Public School teachers, elected officials, township employees, and friends and family of Jennifer Goodman Linn -- came together for the event. Linn passed away last summer after a seven-year battle with her rare cancer. Cycle for …

Livingston residents are putting their best legs forward on Saturday afternoon. That's when the Livingston Township Senior and Community Center will become home to Cycle for Survival, an annual fundraiser that supports research for rare cancers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City. The fundraising cycling event was created in 2007 by former township resident Jennifer Goodman Linn. Linn was an award-winning motivational speaker and marketing strategy consultant who died last summer after battling sarcoma for six years. The fundraiser - which has been held in New York, California and other states - has generated more than $15.6 million and supported 25 research studies, according to the Cycle for Survival website. This year's cycle…

Also, council establishes Community Outreach Committee
After months of collaboration between the Livingston Environmental Commission, the Planning Board and the Town Council; it appears that the township finally has an updated tree ordinance in place. On Monday night, members of the council voted to introduce an updated tree ordinance, which in some cases will require residents to obtain a permit before they remove a tree on their property. The purpose of the ordinance is to control the number of trees that are removed and ensure that the trees that are taken down are indeed replaced. Property owners, who wish to remove a tree, will be subject to a $150.00 tree removal fee for a developed lot, as well as a $500 escrow deposit to ensure that the tree is replaced. Also, if the tree is located …

Join us for an inspirational spin in memory of Jennifer Goodman Linn.
Cycle For Survival 2012 is underway! For those of you who don't know, Cycle For Survival is a charity that raises money for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering, the hospital I go to. Cycle was started 5 years ago, by my friend Jen Goodman Linn while she was fighting cancer herself.Amazingly, Cycle has already raised $9 million in that short time. Sadly, Jen lost her seven-year battle with cancer almost three months ago. This year we're determined to make Cycle bigger than ever. The idea is simple. Jen was a spinning enthusiast, so people gather in small teams to spin for a little while, and people donate to their team. There are Cycle events in February in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington DC, Long Island, and even …
