My family celebrates both Christmas and Chanukah with some fun family traditions.
Family traditions. We all have them for a variety of occasions. At this time of year, of course, the traditions are everywhere. Some are religiously-based, some community-based, and then there are other family traditions that are simply that – family traditions. When I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, I didn’t know too many other families that celebrated both Chanukah and Christmas the way my family did. Most of my friends were definitively Christian (and therefore their traditions revolved around Christmas) or definitely Jewish (and therefore their traditions revolved around Chanukah). Radio host parlays his passion for the holiday into a year-round job.
For most of us, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, but Jay Isherwood’s Christmas spirit lasts all year long. And, apparently he isn’t the only one who feels this way. He is the host and program director of an Internet radio station, www.MerryChristmasRadio.com, which plays Christmas songs every day, 365 days a year. As his station boasts, he is a certifiable Christmas nut. Last December, 70,000 listeners from all over the globe tuned into www.Live365.com to listen to the station and somewhere between 2,000 to 3,000 people were still listening in July, and throughout the off season. Isherwood anticipates the numbers will be even higher this year. This former Livingston resident always had an interest in entertainment, but it wasn’t …

This year, while popular hot spots such as the Livingston Mall and Calabria Pizzeria will be closed in observance of the holiday, numerous Livingston eateries and establishments will actually be open for business as usual: 1. Need to pick up some extra bubbly or a bottle of wine for your holiday occasion? Bottle King, located at 19 South Livingston Avenue, will be open on Christmas Day with abbreviated hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 2. Getting sick on Christmas Day is never fun regardless if you celebrate the holiday or not. Most doctors are out of the office and many care centers are closed. Fortunately, all three of Livingston's pharmacies will be …
