The following information has been provided by the Livingston Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Livingston police used an anti-theft auto recovery system to find a carjacked car, but they are still seeking the person who took the vehicle, police officials said. The owner of the car, a 40-year-old West Orange woman, was carjacked Monday from the Livingston Tiger Mart on the corner of South Orange Avenue and East Hobart Gap Road, according to Det. Sgt. Livingston resident's vehicle was found in Orange two weeks after crime.
Police have recovered the vehicle stolen in a carjacking at the Livingston Mall, according to Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold. The 2004 Honda Civic was found on a side street Tuesday afternoon in Orange, where it caught the attention of city police because it had been issued a parking summons, Dippold said. Orange police ran the number of the license plate and discovered that Livingston had an alarm out for the vehicle after the carjacking earlier this month. The Honda was towed to the Essex County Crime Scene Unit in East Orange, where investigators are looking for evidence, including “who was in it and who may have taken it,” Dippold said. A man believed to have a gun, forcibly took the car from a Livingston resident after she parked near the …

At two malls, days apart, police probe connection after descriptions and video show similarities.
Livingston Police believe there may be a connection between a violent attempted carjacking at the Mall of Short Hills last week and a carjacking at the Livingston Mall a few days earlier, police said, based in part on surveillance video from the parking lot at the Mall of Short Hills and eyewitness descriptions of the suspect in each case. In Livingston, a 44-year-old local woman escaped serious injury in a harrowing encounter with a carjacker who took her car, a 2004 Honda Civic that has not been recovered, police said. In Short Hills, a 53-year-old man was pistol whipped in the face and head with a handgun when he refused to give a suspect the keys to his new BMW. Millburn Police have surveillance video of the suspect fleeing the mall …

Police searching for suspect who forcibly stole car from Livingston Mall parking lot.
A trip to the Livingston Mall turned into a harrowing night for one Livingston woman, when she became the victim of a carjacking in the parking lot, Detective Sgt. Anthony Dippold said. Police say the 44-year-old woman was not injured when a man believed to have a gun forcibly took her car around 8 p.m. The woman parked her 2004 Honda Civic in a spot in Lot 21 near the Food Court entrance during the rainy evening. A man knocked on her driver’s window and startled her, Dippold said. The woman described the man as 50, carrying an umbrella and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. She opened her window slightly and asked what he wanted, Dippold said. The suspect reached into the car and was able to unlock and open the driver’s door, Dippold said…
