The luxury cars were both stolen around 7:45 a.m.
Two separate customers at a mini-mart in Livingston left their keys in the ignition with the engine running when they dashed inside around 7:45 a.m. But when they came out, they found that both of their cars - both Mercedes Benz - had been stolen. Livingston Police Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold confirmed that the two luxury cars were taken at the same time from the parking lot of the Livingston Mart on South Livingston Avenue. Dippold said both cars were left running with the keys in the ignition. A 54 year-old Livingston resident came out of the store to find his black 2011 Mercedes E350 missing and a 28-year-old resident suffered the same fate when he discovered his 2010 white Mercedes C300 was also gone. An early Thursday car theft did not go as planned for one unlucky thief.
A chaotic scene ensued on Thursday morning as a car thief tried stealing a silver Porsche that was left running outside of Dunkin' Donuts. A Livingston resident left his car running as he went in for his morning nourishment. Once the resident went inside, a suspected car thief immediately entered the Porsche and attempted to take it. Luckily for the resident, a good Samaritan in a car next to the Porsche blocked the vehicle snatcher from leaving by pulling his car behind the Porsche. However, the thief was not alone that morning as he had an accomplice in a BMW waiting in the parking lot. Updated: Fairfield officer is hurt as stolen car crashes through locked gate. Three cars recovered in Livingston.
Updated, Monday, June 20, 2 p.m. A Fairfield police officer was injured early Sunday morning when his police car was struck by a stolen car crashing through a gate at a Route 46 auto dealership. Six other thieves fled the scene in stolen vehicles, three, which were later, recovered in Livingston. Livingston police arrested two adults and one juvenile near the Route 10 traffic circle about 4:30 a.m. Sunday after two of the vehicles crashed while being pursued by police from East Hanover. The third vehicle, a Mercedes, ran out of gas in front of St. Mary's Armenian Church, according to Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold.
