Livingston Animal Shelter opens its heart (and doors) to wayward animals

In a tiny building near the Wastewater Pollution Control Facility on Naylon Ave. sits a facility that few in our town know about: The Livingston Animal Shelter.  The shelter, which has been there for more than 30 years, is also the office of Jim Salvadore, full-time Animal Control Officer, and Tim Boutilelle, Assistant Animal Control Officer. They share space with the unofficial town cat, Bubba, and are responsible for corralling any lost or hurt animals found in the town. They also catch, and often release, wild animals which might be lingering in someone’s backyard. Why doesn't Livingston have a program to control the cat population? Many towns have the catch neuter and release program. We have a cat on our block that continues to have 2 litters of kittens a year. Animal control tells us that they can't help. We need to address the problem before it gets worse.   more ›
