Are you ‘Spell’ Bound?

Grab your dictionary and head out to the Lancer Theatre’s “Spelling Bee.”

It’s opening night for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” How to you spell j-i-t-t-e-r-s? We caught a sneak preview earlier this week as the Livingston High School cast, crew and director prepared to vie for the spelling championship – and performance – of a lifetime. They're ready! The production marks the debut of director Janene Depalo. “I've been directing shows for elementary aged children for the last eight years.  Several of these cast members have been in my shows when they were younger and to work with them now, years later, has been an amazing opportunity.” The curtain rises at 8 p.m. Thursday in the high school auditorium, with performances continuing on Friday and Saturday nights. What’s the Buzz? Lancer Theater is presenting ‘Spelling Bee’

Broadway star helps performers set the stage.

Broadway actor Lisa Howard had a spellbound audience when she showed up at Livingston High School to meet with the cast and crew of the Lancer Theatre. The students are rehearsing the musical comedy, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which will be performed at Livingston High School on March 17-March 19. The performers and crew had a two-hour session with Howard, who originated the lead role of Rona Lisa Peretti in the award winning Broadway production.  Not only did she originate the part,  he was also involved from the ground floor working with William Finn (composer and lyricist) and Rachel Sheinkin (book writer) creating the show and music.    Howard, who has collaborated with Livingston High School teacher and the show’s music …
