Art, Reading, and Other Great Special Needs Programs Continue

TryCAN continues its fun and rewarding recreation programs for youth with special needs.  Among the programs running now are a new Art Group for Mask Making and the Reading Club.

In the Mask Making Art Group, children enjoy hands-on mask-making including designing, making and painting their own masks. At the end of the sessions, your child will have her/his very own mask to take home and show off, while having an opportunity to improve socialization, taking turns, fine and gross motor skills, and working with others in a group. Led by Cindy Hamilton, Certified Art Instructor and Art Therapist. Wednesdays, 4:00-4:45pm.  May 7-28.  Price is $40 for the four sessions.

The Reading Club is designed for children ages 5-9 to help struggling or reluctant readers experience the joys of reading.  In a completely embarrassment and failure free setting, the class will capitalize on strengths, instill self-confidence and foster a Can-Do attitude to help children read more confidently.  Led by Sarah Hanson, Certified Teacher and former recreational professional.  Participants work on core skills depending on your child's needs (such as decoding, word attack, comprehension, making appropriate reading choices) using books, games, music and other fun activities.  Wednesdays, 4:45-5:30pm. May 13, 20, 27, and June 10.  Price is $52 for the four sessions.  A Reading Camp will run during July, so please inquire.
