Winter Registration is Open for Adult School

Livingston's adult school will begin their second semester.

You’re never too old to learn something new.

Following a successful fall semester, the Livingston School of Continuing Education is returning in January.  The school, which is for residents over the age of 18, is meant to provide residents with continuing education and life enrichment courses.

Organized by Livingston’s Senior, Youth and Leisure Services and the Livingston Board of Education, the school offers classes in subjects such as computer technology, business and retirement planning.  There will also be theater and language courses offered, as well as women's self defense.

“In response to residents needs, we will be expanding our successful senior and adult day programs to include evening classes in computer technology, social media, smart phones & tablets, languages, business, photography and arts & theater," Jennifer Hessberger, Director of SYLS, said earlier this year.  "A small selection of classes will start this fall, which will be expanded on next year.”

Classes will be held at Livingston High School and the Livingston Senior Community Center.  Registration has begun and classes begin the second week of January.

“The Livingston Board of Education will provide classroom space at no cost to the SYLS Department, allowing us to offer a variety of adult classes at reduced cost to residents," said Hessberger.  "Classes will be taught by Livingston Public School teachers as well as specialty professionals in the community, and will be offered in the evening between the hours of 6:30-10 p.m.”

Registration for continuing education and life enrichment courses is now open and residents can sign up in person at the SYLS department or online with CommunityPass.

To sign up with CommunityPass, log on to your family account and look for the season: Adult School 2013.  For new residents or those who do not have a family account at CommunityPass, follow the links and instructions for new users and “Create your account now!” CommunityPass online registration is used for all SYLS programs and activities including sports, camps, after-school programs, and fitness classes.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for residents to expand their knowledge, learn new skills, and meet new people,” said Liliana Branquinho, Program Supervisor for Senior/Adult Enrichment and Special Events. “So please check our website and look out for future advertisements for the Livingston School of Continuing Education.”
