Spring Leads Livingston Board Of Ed. For Final Time Monday

'It's going to be a big loss," said Barry Funt of Spring's departure. 'You have big shoes to fill.'

Livingston Board of Education President Ronnie Spring concluded his term Monday and led the board for a final time. 

Elected in 2010, Spring lost his re-election bid in November to challenger Arthur Artman in November. Monday’s final board meeting of the year also was Spring’s final night on the board.

Spring said he had the utmost confidence in the faculties of Superintendent John Alfieri, the board, staff and administrators to continue the tradition of academic excellence in the district. .

“I couldn’t  be happier knowing my kids are in the hands of all these people at the table, all the teachers and administrators ” said Spring.

“I grew up here, my kids are going to grow up here and it’s all because everyone here who works for our kids, so thank you.”

Board members concluded Monday’s meeting by expressing their thanks and appreciation to Spring for his leadership and success as president.  

Board member Leslie Winograd, who won re-election in November, called Spring “ a remarkable board member.”

“I learned a lot from you and I will very much miss your presence at this table,” said Winograd.”

The district presented Spring with a crystal gavel to commemorate his time on the board and his presidency.

While Spring may have lost his election in November, board member Barry Funt said Spring can always run again for the board. Although, Funt joked that he hoped Spring would not run next year when Funt himself was up for re-election.

“It’s going to be a big loss,” said Funt of Spring’s departure. “You have big shoes to fill. You really embody the community.”
