The following letter was written by Livingston Superintendent Brad Draeger:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2012-2013 school year!  I hope you are enjoying the waning weeks of summer and that your children are looking forward to the start of a new and exciting school year in the Livingston Public Schools!

Although our students are not occupying our buildings, we have had a busy summer.  Faculty members have participated in professional development opportunities and have been working on writing curriculum.  The construction projects at our schools are behind us and we are in the final stages of cleaning and polishing.  Principals and school counselors worked diligently to complete class assignments and schedules to ensure a very successful opening of school.

There are a few housekeeping items I want to bring to your attention in preparation for the start of the school year.  Please take some time to review our recently revised Grading and Reporting Handbook which you can access here.  The revisions include timelines for the return and feedback of student assessments at the secondary level. You will also be able to access your child’s secondary teachers’ grade book through the STARS Portal.  This access will allow you to periodically review your child’s progress through a live look at their attendance, tardies, homework assignments, assessments and grades.  The principals of Mount Pleasant Middle School, Heritage Middle School and Livingston High School will be communicating with you directly for how to access this new feature.

Livingston Public Schools is now able to address a long-term priority of the LPS Strategic Planby increasing instructional time.  Adding this extra instructional time for all elementary, middle and high school students .

Minor changes have been made to the Code of Conduct, which you can access here. The safety and security of our schools and students are our number one priority and I strongly encourage you to read and discuss this important document with your children.  The Code of Conduct will also be reviewed with students upon their return during the first week of school.

Students in grades 4 through 12 as well as all parents/guardians are required to sign the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement Form which you can download here.  Please return this form to your school by Friday, September 14th.  If you have more than one student, a separate Code of Conduct Acknowledgment Form is required for each child.

Finally, below are two important documents which must also be returned by Friday, September 14th.  Both of these documents can be accessed on our website here.

  • Confidential Medical Information Form
  • Informational Letter and Form regarding Subsidized Lunch

Enjoy these last days of summer with your family and rest assured that the 2012-2013 school year will be an outstanding one!
