Livingston Schools May Open on Election Day

With Hurricane Sandy ravaging the township and leaving thousands without power, students in Livingston were forced to miss a week of school.

With the five days off, parents have been wondering how school officials would be able to make up these days of school.  The 2012-13 School Calendar includes three snow days. 

Currently, six schools remain without power.  Mayor Stephen Santola says that one of the priorities of PSE&G this weekend is to restore power to the schools.  

On Thursday night, the district announced that if power is restored by Sunday night, the district will be planning a full week of school for students and staff.  Schools will be open for students for the full day on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6. 

In addition, with the cancelation of the NJEA convention, Livingston Public Schools will also be open on Thursday and Friday, November 8 and November 9. 

The district also announced that "in order to resume full instruction, Livingston Education Week has been canceled. There will be no parent visitation. Though we know the children will be disappointed, elementary schools will not hold Halloween Parades."

Parents are also advised to send their elementary school students to school with a bag lunch as the district is currently unsure if local vendors will be able to provide a hot lunch.

The SAT exam scheduled for Saturday, November 3 at Livingston High School has also been canceled. The exam has been re-scheduled for November 17.
