A discussion for school-aged girls on how to promote healthy self-expression and relationships will be held at the beginning of October.
Guest speaker Simone Marean will present Raising Resilient Girls at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at in the Mt. Pleasant Middle School auditorium, at 11 Broadlawn Drive. Livingston Municipal Alliance Committee and Livingston Public Schools will sponsor the discussion.
Marean is the executive director and co-founder of the Girls Leadership Institute, which focusing on giving girls the skills and confidence to live as leaders, according to the institute's website.
Marean will be sharing her expertise, with parents, teachers and others, on how to help girls with assertive self-expression, emotional intelligence and healthy relationships, and preparation for a life of personal and societal leadership.
The evening will also cover:
- Developmental dynamics of girls from preschool through high school to include;
- How and why girls are aggressive with one another;
- The “Good Girl” phenomenon;
- Avoiding victimization;
- The power of emotional intelligence;
- The importance of mistakes;
- The limitations of blame; and
- Seeing conflict as an opportunity for change.
