Manufacturer Pays Library $132K For Faulty Building Material

The settlement money will go toward future repairs to the library's roof.

Faulty building materials used in the construction of the Livingston Public Library dome led to a settlement of more than $100,000 for the township.

Tamko Building Products will pay Livingston $132,000 for recalled and defective materials that were used on the library’s roof. The materials caused the dome to leak and need to be replaced.

The township was first informed the roofing materials were recalled when repairs were being done by a contractor more than six months ago.  The township then reached out to Tamko, who Mayor Rudy Fernandez said was easy to work with and quick to compensate the township for the faulty materials.

The council voted unanimously at its previous meeting to accept the settlement. The Library Board of Trustees still need to approve the settlement before the township can receive the funds. The board’s next meeting is Sept. 10.
