Livingston Honors Santola and Schneiderman

The former Mayors were given a "Key to the City."

Even though Tuesday’s reorganization meeting was built around new councilmen being sworn in and the selection of a deputy mayor, Livingston Mayor Rudy Fernandez still took time to honor those who served before them.

Former Mayors Stephen Santola and Gary Schneiderman were honored on Tuesday for their service to Livingston.  Both were presented with multiple gifts including photos of their first swearing in, in 1999, fleeces, a gavel and calendars marking their Mondays free.  However, most symbolically, the two were given plaques with "keys to the city."

"The Livingston Township Council is proud to honor Steve and Gary, as they conclude 12 years of service to our community as a councilmember, with Steve concluding three terms as mayor and Gary with two terms," Fernandez read from the plaque.  "Steve and Gary's devotion, talent, energy and time to the betterment of our community is truly appreciated.  It is with profound gratitude on behalf of all the residents of Livingston, that we present Steve and Gary with this key to the Township of Livingston and we thank Steve and Gary for their service, and applaud them for their accomplishments.  We wish them all the best as they leave the council secure in the knowledge that Livingston has been made demonstratively better by their efforts."
