Christie's Childhood Cop Friend Toured GWB Lane Closures, Report Says

Lt. Thomas 'Chip' Michaels grew up with governor in Livingston and examined traffic impact of lane closures with David Wildstein.

A Port Authority police lieutenant who grew up in Livingston with Gov. Chris Christie toured the George Washington Bridge with David Wildstein the first morning of the lane closures, according to an MSNBC report.

Lt. Thomas "Chip" Michaels examined the impact of the lane closures with Wildstein on Sept. 9 and sent text messages to update the former Port Authority executive of the traffic congestion, the report said.

Michaels grew up in Livingston with Christie and Wildstein, and coached the governor's son in youth hockey, MSNBC reported. Michaels' brother, Jeffrey, is a top Republican lobbyist also with close ties to Christie, the report said.
