Red Bulls to Honor Slain Youth Coach Saturday

Former Hasbrouck Heights resident and NY Red Bulls youth coach Michael Jones will be honored before Saturday's game

The New York Red Bulls will remember a coach in the team's youth program before its home game Saturday night, two weeks after the man was slain on a Manhattan street.

The Red Bulls will show a photo montage in memory of Mike Jones and the work he did in his five-plus years with the Red Bulls’ youth programs. In addition, Red Bulls players will wear black armbands and the No. 6 on their shorts, the number Jones wore throughout his playing career.

Armonk United SC has created a memorial fund in Jones’ honor.

NYPD detectives returned from a recent trip to Mexico emptyhanded as the search continues for Orlando Orea, who is a suspect in Jones' death, according to the NYPD.

Orea, who also goes by Orlando Gutierrez and Orlando Estevas, reportedly fled to Mexico City after leaving a note in his Queens apartment apologizing to his brother and the mother of his child for the slaying, according to police.

Jones, 25 and a British national, was a youth soccer coach who lived in Hasbrouck Heights before moving to West Harriman, New York. He may have died due to a case of mistaken identity, according to the Post.

Jones had last been seen arguing with a man on 14th Street near Manhattan’s Union Square at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

The NYPD is being assisted by Interpol and Mexican authorities in their search, according to a report on NJ.com.
