Protect Yourself: Find out the Latest about Cybercrime and Internet Safety

Livingston Technology Committee to present their latest seminar on Thursday.

What are the "bad guys" doing with YOUR online information? Find out the latest about cyber crimes, online privacy, identity theft, wireless safety, scams and frauds, and what steps you should take to protect yourself in this program brought to you by the Livingston Technology Committee.

The Livingston Technology Committee will present “Cybercrime and Internet Safety” on Thursday, October 18 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Community Center on Hillside Avenue.  It is open to the public at no charge.

Two Special Agents from the Newark Division Cyber Squad, experts on computer-based crime protection, will provide the latest information and intelligence about computer and network intrusions, identity theft and fraud including bots, worms, viruses, spyware, malware and hacking.  They will tell illustrative stories and detail protections that people can use to protect themselves, their computers  and their identities.

Phil Chaiklin, a technology and security specialist and owner of High Tech Depot, a firm that works with data and information security, says that “the information in this meeting applies to everyone.  We want to provide people with the knowledge they need to protect themselves against privacy and security threats.”

This is the third time the Committee is presented a program for the public about computer and Internet safety with the FBI Cyber Squad.  Two weeks ago, the Committee presented a program about social networking with LinkedIn and Facebook.  Anyone who would like additional information or to suggest a topic, please contact Ellen Lazer at elazer@comcast.net.
