Newark Teen Charged in Livingston Car Wash Auto Theft

Police continue the search for three accomplices in the case.

A 14-year-old Newark teenager male from Newark is facing charges including auto theft in connection with a June 9 incident at Livingston Car Wash on at 111 E. Mount Pleasant, according to a published report.

The youth was detained in Newark and brought to Livingston Police over the July 4 holiday, the Star-Ledger reported.

Police say the teen was identified by witnesses as one of four black men seen in white Mitsubishi who left the car and allegedly took a white 2013 Mercedes 300. That car was later found in Newark with its GPS wires cut.

Law enforcement was able to locate the missing vehicle and the 14-year-old through video surveillance and physical evidence, the article said.

The young man was charged with auto theft, criminal mischief and conspiracy   and is now at the Essex County Youth House Detention Center, police said. His case will be heard in the family division of the Essex County Superior Court in Newark, the article said.

Police say the investigation continues as does the search for additional suspects.
