Man Killed At Livingston Garage Identified

The Ledgewood man was reportedly a contractor for Fairfield Maintenance.

A Ledgewood man working as a contractor was killed Thursday at Livingston's Public Works Department garage after being struck by a township-owned dump truck, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. 

Gregory Johnston, 67, was killed after he was hit by a dump truck shortly before 2 p.m., according to Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. 

Johnston was working at the garage as a contractor for Fairfield Maintenance, Carter said. He was reportedly working on the township's oil and gas tanks when he was hit by the dump truck, Carter said.

Johnston was pronounced dead at the scene, Carter said. 

Livingston Police and Essex County Prosecutor's Office investigators could be seen Thursday afternoon inspecting the front bumper of a township dump truck parked next to the garage, located at 235 S. Livingston Ave.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, Carter said.
