A Livingston man was found shot to death outside a Northfield Avenue apartment building early Thursday morning.

Brendan Tevlin, 19, was killed from an apparent gunshot wound at about midnight, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Authorities responded to the area of Walker Road and Northfield Avenue at about midnight after receiving a report of shots fired, the prosecutor's office said.

A preliminary investigation indicated Tevlin was targeted in the shooting, the prosecutor's office said.

The teen's body was discovered inside an SUV in the 200 block of Northfield Avenue, according to WPIX.com.

Tevlin, a Seton Hall Prep grad who just finished his freshman year at the University of Richmond, was called a "good kid" who had "no enemies," a family friend told The Star-Ledger.

According to the report, Tevlin texted his mother Wednesday night, saying he was on his way home after being out at a friend's house. The family has no indication why he was targeted, the report said.

“We’re literally just reeling in this tragedy,” the family spokeswoman told the Ledger.

A Mass was held Thursday at Seton Hall Prep to celebrate Tevlin's life. West Orange Mayor Parisi, who is friends with the Tevlin family, said the 19-year-old was an "impressive young man with a lot to offer the world," according to The Alternative Press.

"It's hard to put into words how horrible I feel today, or how this entire community grieves for what happened," according to The Alternative Press.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-847-7432.

wohopeful You are absolutely correct! That Saint Cloud park {$500,000!}, was a gift to that neighborhood, i.e. organized voting bloc. How can we still have a paid Public Information Officer? According to Councilman Krakoviak's blog, it seems we, the taxpayers, are going to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for the {"unanticipated" } increase to the Llewellyn Park project. A 900% increase to the debt in 16 years to pay for LESS of everything. Spending priorities, hiring practices, Sayers, Team Sayers, Abbott's accommodation, the failure to do ANYTHING about those 2 false armed robbery reports, etc.etc., demonstrate beyond any doubt that the inmates have taken over the various asylums in West Orange.

So on top of being a clueless clown who spreads rumors, you can't even spell. By the way, how is the neighborhood militia watch you have going on? You know the one where you posted on the watercooler that you put together? The one the police know nothing about and when brought to their attention, laughed when it was mentioned you were the one who was organizing this. But you're also the moron who says he carries a knife on him at all times, in some sort of attempt to act tough, not "tuff" as you spelled it, which must speak greatly of the lack of education you had in life. And before you go bragging about attempting to know of a police investigation, throwing around so and so was a drug dealer. Lets not throw stones there pal, as you have openly bragged about strip clubs that you've worked at, which are and always have been havens for drug use. So calm down there moron. And if you're gonna claim to know friends, name them. If not, that's libel you are committing right now. But I would think anyone that would sue you wouldn't get much out of you, maybe a few sleeveless t-shirts, a 6 pack of bud light, and your little pocket knife you carry. So please, drop the wannabe know it all tough guy act. Its very unbecoming of a former strip club jizz mopper.
Us against each other? July 01, 2014 at 11:44 PM
Reading some of these posts is heartbreaking. Going after one another does absolutely nothing, it won't bring this kid back, it won't heal his family, and when we start pointing fingers at one another's literary shortcomings, previous employment etc etc.. It just draws a line that proves nothing more then the other trying to one up the other. For what? At the end of the day, like a lot of people I have neighbors that are great and some that kinda suck , but regardless of background, social status, monetary accomplishments, I wouldn't hesitate to help in any way I could ( that may or may not be reciprocated) but it is what it is.. . When there's a sketchy car in the area, when 2 guys tried to walk into my house 6 years ago, I went to other neighbors, as many as would listen and let them know the dealing asked they tell their friends to be alert as well. I went to the police and made a report. I can't imagine any of us wants to see another hurt over a difference of opinion, so let's try to keep focused more on working together to support the albeit limited & simple facts that can be agreed upon. We all pay taxes, we all work really hard for our homes and the lives we try to enjoy. Some have kids , or elderly parents in the neighboring towns, which makes us all neighbors. Each and every one of us holds a responsibility to take a step back ( whenever possible- we all have crap-ass days when one more thing could send us over the edge) but that's what community is really about no?
