Livingston Man Accused of Pistol-Whipping Indicted for Attemped Murder

Donald Ebert, 54, is accused of hitting his estranged wife with the butt of a gun before having a standoff with police at his Livingston home.

A Livingston man who allegedly struck his estranged wife in the back of the head with the butt of a gun in Morristown and barricaded himself in his home for hours before surrendering to police in February was indicted Thursday on attempted murder charges. 

Donald Ebert, 54, Ebert was also indicted by a Morris County grand jury on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and weapons possession, according to NJ.com. 

Ebert hit his estranged wife in the back of the head with a gun on Feb. 1 near Morristown Medical Center while in a car. He dropped his estranged wife off and fled in the car and ended up at his Livingston home, where he barricaded himself inside with the gun and refused to come out. He surrendered to police two-and-a-half hours later.

Ebert was described that day by Morristown Police as "armed, dangerous and possibly suicidal."

Ebert’s bail was reduced from $100,000 to $50,000, which he posted on April 5, according to NJ.com.
