Florham Park Man Indicted for Allegedly Trying to Kill Cops With Explosive Device

Daniel Silvio Fargnoli, 31, was indicted Tuesday on numerous charges stemming from December standoff at his Avalon apartment.

A Florham Park man was indicted Tuesday for threatening to kill police officers and attempting to throw an explosive device at them during a standoff in December at his apartment in the Avalon complex, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Daniel Silvio Fargnoli, 31, was indicted on five counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree attempted aggravated arson, six counts of second-degree possession of a weapon (the explosive device) for an unlawful purpose, one count of second-degree attempt to cause widespread injury or damage, two counts of third-degree unlawful possession of a destructive device, one count of third-degree terroristic threats and one count of third-degree resisting arrest.

Officers were called to Fargnoli's Dixon Drive residence at about 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 17, 2013 for a welfare check requested by one of his family members, the prosecutor's office said.

Fargnoli confronted officers when they arrived, threatened to kill them and claimed to have a gun and a bomb, according to the prosecutor's office.

Fargnoli barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to negotiate with officers, the prosecutor's office said.

The hours-long standoff ended when authorities spotted Fargnoli lighting what appeared to be a molotov cocktail inside the residence, the prosecutor's office said.

Fargnoli tossed the device at members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team as they rushed into his residence, the prosecutor's office said.

The accelerant splashed on at least one of the officers before authorities with the help of a police dog were able to subdue Fargnoli, the prosecutor's office said.

Criminals, lunatics and idiots like this guy are why so many of our political elites want to abolish the 2nd Amendment - all while they have armed protection for themselves and their families, of course. Perhaps a few more well-written laws would've persuaded this moron to not threaten our police with a gun and "Molotov cocktail"?
