Early Morning Fire Displaces Family on Trombley Drive

"It was obviously intense — the heat — going down to the basement," said Livingston Fire Chief Christopher Mullin.

An early morning fire severely damaged a home and displaced a family on Trombley Drive Tuesday.

The fire began slightly before 7 a.m. at 16 Trombley Drive, said Livingston Fire Chief Christopher Mullin. When fire crews arrived, smoke was billowing out the front door of the two-story home while the female homeowner, her son and their dog were watching from the front lawn.

Fire crews entered the home through the front door and were able to quickly ventilate the home by breaking through walls and windows, said Mullen. The fire originated in the basement, which can typically be difficult to control, but Mullen said crews were able to contain the fire quickly.

“It was obviously intense — the heat — going down to the basement,” said Mullin, standing in front of the house later that morning. “Basement fires are always a little difficult because you are going down into the fire.”

There were no injuries to the homeowners or firefighters, said Mullin.

Located on one of the many quiet, tree-lined streets in Livingston, the home’s first- and second-story windows were boarded around 11 a.m. Mullin and a handful of firefighters were also still there as people were removing items from inside the home.

The extensive damage done by the fire will displace the family, said Mullin.

“The house is not habitable at this time to do the extend of the fire,” said Mullin. “The homeowner is probably going to have to relocate for sometime."

Mullin said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
