Fire at Kushner Academy Quickly Extinguished

No one hurt and building sustained little damage, fire official said.

A small oven fire broke out at the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy Friday after some boxes were left on a cooking top, Assistant Chief Kevin Francione of the Livingston Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to the call at 12:37 pm and placed the fire under control within 15 minutes. The school’s automatic sprinklers had largely doused the blaze by the time firefighters arrived, Francione said. The building sustained little damage and is still habitable, he added.

Staff who were in another part of the South Orange Avenue campus evacuated safely. No one was hurt, Francione also said.
