Livingston Police Chief Honored This Week

'I was truly humbled that the other Police Chiefs in the county decided to bestow this honor upon me, said Livingston Police Chief Craig Handschuch.

The Chief of the Livingston Police Department will be honored this week after more than three decades on the force. 

The Essex County Chiefs of Police Association will recognize Livingston Police Chief Craig Handschuch at its annual Christmas dinner dance on Thursday at Nanina's in the Park in Belleville. Tickets are still available for $100 each and can be purchased by calling (973) 450-3186. 

"I was truly humbled that the other Police Chiefs in the county decided to bestow this honor upon me," said Handschuch in an email.

Handschuch has been on the Livingston Police force for 35 years and was appointed to lead the department in September 2008. 

Handschuch said he there are many other chief's of police that are deserving of the award and he has worked with many of them during his career.

"We worked many criminal investigations and have collaborated on many topics over the years," said Handschuch  "Many of the chiefs know first hand what I have accomplished during my tenure. 

"I have also been a very active in the association since being accepted as a member and I assume that my hard work and participation was considered in their selection."
