Livingston Council Recognizes Newest Eagle Scout

"It feels awesome," said Sam Thor about reaching the rank of Eagle Scout.

The Livingston Council applauded the newest Eagle Scout in town and honored him with a proclamation at a recent town hall meeting.

Sam Thor, 16, received a special proclamation from the council at its Oct. 28 meeting for achieving the highest rank in the Boy Scouts.

For his Eagle Scout project, Thor distributed comfort kits to veterans at the VA Hospital in East Orange. The kits included hygiene items and other products they would need at the hospital.

With the help of numerous other Scouts and the Jewish War Veterans from Temple Beth Shalom, the project was a great success. The kits were distributed on Feb. 17, and the veterans were very pleased with them.

"It feels awesome," said Thor about reaching the rank of Eagle Scout. "It took a lot of work and I had a lot of fun with all the Scouts. You're never done being an Eagle Scout but it's good to finally have my project accomplished."

The Boy Scout Board of Review officially approved Thor as an Eagle Scout in July.

Thor joined the local Cub Scouts Pack 16 in first grade. He eventually became a Troop Guide and began helping the younger scouts in his troop on his way toward Eagle Scout.

Thor is currently a junior at Livingston High School. He is part of the school’s daily morning broadcast show called "AM Wired." Thor enjoys directing and screenwriting, and plans to use his skills to make a career in film.

Thor hopes to go to college and become a film major. He plans to use the skills he learned in Boy Scout in his future career.
