“Use the discounts often enough, and membership pays for itself," said board secretary Sue Cone said.

Other membership benefits include pre-public access to BookFEST!, the annual book sale extravaganza held at the end of October; recognition on the Friends of the Library website; and discounts on tickets for Friends of the Library events.

“The biggest benefit is probably the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting our wonderful Library," said Cone.

Membership is the single largest source of funding for the Friends of the Library, accounting for about half of the organization’s annual fund raising. There are currently between 500-600 members.

Memberships are offered at different levels and can be given as a gift.

For more information and membership forms, visit the library, go to http://livingston.bccls.org/friends.html, or call (973) 992-4600, ext. 505.

Memberships can be purchased online or by mail. Send mail to: Friends of the Livingston Library, 10 Robert Harp Drive, Livingston, NJ 07039.

Friends, a non-profit organization, provides crucial funding for many Livingston Library programs and services not covered by the township budget.  Examples of the events and services the organization supports include the Summer Reading Program for Children and Teens, the Museum Pass Program, guest speaker series, the E-reader Experience which allows patrons to borrow an e-reader pre-loaded with books for children or adults, and the purchase of hundreds of books and non-print media.
