Temple B’nai Abraham Congregational Learning Offers Biblical Inconsistency—More Torah Than We Asked For

Jewish learning is a life-long adventure full of excitement. At Temple B’nai Abraham, 300 E Northfield Road, Livingston,  whether you want to attend a Shabbat morning Torah study (Parashat HaShavuah class), hear a guest speaker, read a book or read the entire Bible, and much more, we have something for you in TBA’s Congregational Learning  program! Classes are taught by our clergy, educators, wonderful guest teachers and scholars, all who are eager to share their passion for Judaism, and unless indicated are free with the request to register for class by either signing up online at www.tbanj.org or calling 973-994-2290. We are also delighted to welcome community members to attend our classes. Alyce Sands Miller and Steve Delman are Co-Chairs of the TBA Adult Learning Committee.

On three  Mondays in January, 2014:  the 6th, 13th and 27th at 7:00 PM, join us for a class  entitled Biblical Inconsistency—More Torah Than We Asked For,  led by Julie Deluty, Doctoral Candidate in Biblical Studies, New York University. God has several names, giving the Ten Commandments at least twice, and the Torah includes two traditions about Moses and the rock and Deborah the prophetess. The Bible is filled with parallel yet divergent biblical traditions.  How can we understand them, yet still regard the Bible as a holy work? Julie Deluty, will share her broad background in languages, ancient history, and archeology as we explore the earliest sources of our own story, seeking to understand both ancient history and ancient memory. This class is free and open to the community.
