Thursday, October 3, 2013, 7:30 PM  The Innocents by Francesca Segal
Segal takes Edith Wharton’s Age of Innocence and moves it from Gentile New York of the 1870s to Jewish London of today. Adam is thrilled to be marrying the beautiful and intelligent Rachel, whom he has adored since they were both teens. Rachel’s cousin Ellie moves home from New York, however, and her effect on Adam is, well, strong. Segal’s descriptions of her home community and its inhabitants are fascinating. Extra credit for also reading Wharton’s original.
