Summer Adventures Program - "Nature Before Noon"

Summer Adventures Program – “Nature Before Noon” Summer Adventures at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum presents “Nature Before Noon” a program for 7-8 year olds will meet from 9am – 12 noon the week of, July 7 to July 11.  The program provides a time for children to observe and explore nature and express what they see and hear using a variety of artistic materials. Children will investigate the garden at Macculloch Hall, using their senses to learn to distinguish between different species of birds, trees, small mammals and insects. The week will begin with a focus on backyard birds as children watch, listen, and learn to identify neighborhood birds—from the largest woodpecker to the smallest hummingbird.  Children will also learn to tell tree species apart by the differences in their bark and leaves, and create a watercolor painting outdoors based on their real-time observations.  During the session participants will examine different types of soil and consider the needs of earthworms and their important role in the environment.  To connect the concepts learned, the program culminates a puppet show featuring puppets the children make and representing characters from the garden:  birds, insects, and small mammals. The Summer Adventures “Nature Before Noon” program is recommended for children ages 7 – 8 years old.  Preregistration is required.  Call (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or email cwinslow@maccullochhall.org to receive a registration form.  The cost for the week-long program is $175/child for Museum members and $200/child for non-members.  Not yet a member?  Visit maccullochhall.org and become a member today. Two other programs, “Secrets of the Civil War” taking place July 28th – August 1st and “Summer in the Secret Garden”, August 11th – 15th will be offered for 9 – 12 year olds.  For details on the education programs or any of the other programs offered by Macculloch Hall Historical Museum please visit maccullochhall.org Macculloch Hall Historical Museum preserves the history of the Macculloch-Miller families, the Morris area community, and the legacy of its founder W.
