Community Corner

Looking for hospice volunteers!

VITAS Innovative Hospice Care of New Jersey North has volunteer opportunities that suit all abilities and interests. Our volunteers give their time to terminally ill patients and their families by providing a listening ear and a warm and caring presence during a critical time in life. VITAS volunteers visit patients in their homes, nursing homes or assisted living communities, provide support to veterans at the end of life, style patients’ hair or offer a massage, play a patient’s favorite tune, bring their well-behaved pet for a loving, furry visit, do some household repair, or help in the office, among other jobs. Bereavement volunteers make visits and phone calls to loved ones, sew Memory Bears and help with memorial services.

VITAS provides the required volunteer training to get started for free.  Assignments are made according to the volunteer’s location preference and work or family schedule. Call Barbara Adams-Plyer at 973-994-5343 for more information.
