LEARN ABOUT CHINESE OPERA AT THE LIVINGSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY!

LEARN ABOUT CHINESE OPERA AT THE LIVINGSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY!

Chinese opera is much more than just an age-old form of musical theater. Its rich heritage of costumes, makeup, sets, characters and storylines continue to pervade all of the arts of the region--including, most recently, film.  Enter the world of this vibrant art-form with an expert guide at the Livingston Public Library on February 20, 2014, at 7:30 pm. “A Glorious Spectacle:

Chinese Opera 101” will be a presentation by Judith Zeitlin, professor of Chinese civilization at the University of Chicago.  It is free to the public, no advance registration required. The program will include film clips and images from Prof. Zeitlin’s upcoming exhibition, “Performing Images:  Opera in Chinese Visual Culture,” which opens February 25 at the Smart Museum of Art in Chicago. (The exhibition has already received starred reviews from local news outlets including The Chicago Tribune.)

Join us for an unforgettable evening with the perfect interpreter of a great artistic tradition. This program is free and advance registration is not required.
