Called the best play the award-winning comic playwright has ever written, “Lost in Yonkers” received numerous accolades including the 1991 Drama Desk Award for Best New Play and the 1991 Tony Award for Best Play.  The coming-of-age tale is about Bella, a 35-year old mentally challenged sweet, young woman living at home with her stern mother.  Comedy ensues when her n’er do well brother, Eddie, leaves his two young sons on the mother’s doorstep and the boys are left to contend with Grandma, a frightfully intimidating immigrant, Bella and her secret romance with an usher at the local movie house, and Louie, their small-time hoodlum uncle, in this strange new world called Yonkers.

The play, directed by Sandra Van Dyke, will take place at the West Orange High School Auditorium which holds over 900 comfortable seats and features state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.  The West Orange Drama Club is proud to be a troupe in the International Thespian Society honoring excellence in the work of high school theatre.  The Club also participates in the annual state festival, the international festival in Nebraska and the annual Governor’s Award in Acting competition each year, consistently garnering awards for the entire school as well as individual students.
