Sara Terry Photos on Display at Newark Academy

Acclaimed photojournalist and activist Sara Terry comes to Newark Academy as the 2012 Artist-in Residence in November. In addition to her own photo work, Terry is the founder of The Aftermath Project , a non-profit organization that helps photographers tell the stories of what happens to people living with the aftermath of the violence and destruction of war.

She recently directed the groundbreaking film Fambul Tok, a documentary focused on the work of John Caulker, a Sierra Leonean with a vision of peace for his country. The film premiered at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival and has gone on to screen in more than forty festivals around the world.

Terry’s photo work will also be on display in the McGraw Art Gallery from November 3 through November 30. A reception will be held in the gallery on Thursday, November 29 at 5:30pm, followed by a screening of Fambul Tok at 6:30pm. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm and on Saturdays by appointment only.
